Coral Regency Final Preview

by getagrip68 @ 29.04.2008 - 18:08:38

The Regency is the main event on Sky Sports 1 tonight. The action, including a decent supporting card, starts at 7:30pm.

Speed Figs

T2 - Flying Winner 100
T5 - Glittering Aries 56
T3 - Swift Jade 50+
T1 - Ballymac Weeshie 40
T6 - Vatican Fyne (formerly Rough Rose) 26+
T4 - Sherries Boy 16

Flying Winner is well clear on the figures courtesy of a rapid 41.09 (calc) in the first round. She couldn't match that in the semi's after finding trouble and tonight’s race must revolve around whether she gets a clear run or not. Glittering Aries recorded the next best figure when chasing home Flying Winner in their heat.

Skydogs Tissue

The speed figures, with a little tweaking for the effects of the draw, convert to the odds below -

4/11 Flying Winner, 11/1 Glittering Aries, 14/1 Swift Jade, 16/1 Ballymac Weeshie, 28/1 Vatican Fyne, 40/1 Sherries Boy

Strictly on the odds the 11/8 available about Flying Winner is excellent value. Chris Lund's bitch will have to come through the pack again but if the gaps come she'll take some beating. The other market leader with the bookies is Ballymac Weeshie but he looks very short at around 2/1. Glittering Aries is interesting at the 20/1 put up by the layers. She has a poor draw out in trap five but is capable of a fast start and should go better than the odds suggest.

Swift Jade was the ante-post selection and Darryl Porter's bitch has made the final six. She'll be out the back early on but she's a real stayer and I'm hopeful she'll close in for a place at least.

A good race in prospect with several options for betting. Flying winner is the outright selection but an alternative would be to lay Ballymac Weeshie. Possibly even better value is cheap buy of Glittering Aries at 6 on the 50-25-10 spread market.

Coral Regency Final Draw

by getagrip68 @ 27.04.2008 - 19:23:58

The Regency reaches its conclusion on Tuesday night and will be shown live on Sky.

The ante-post selection, Swift Jade, has made the final line up and I'm hopeful she'll stay on into a place at least.

Final trap draw as below -

1 BALLYMAC WEESHIE
2 FLYING WINNER
3 SWIFT JADE
4 SHERRIES BOY

Blue Square Greyhound Derby

by getagrip68 @ 27.04.2008 - 18:45:11

The draw has been made for the first round of the Greyhound Derby and there are some interesting looking heats. It all starts on Friday the 2nd of May and I'm buzzing already!

I'll try and post an ante-post selection or two before kick off but with 136 dogs to look at it could take me a while to go through. In the meantime have a read of Darrell Williams' article on the Betfair dogs site which sets the scene for this years event.

Ocean Trailers Puppy Stakes Review

by getagrip68 @ 27.04.2008 - 18:20:07

Promising youngster Westmead Osprey remained unbeaten when taking the Ocean Trailers Puppy Stakes at Walthamstow. Nick Savva's dog was away well and never headed. He won at 4/6 which was probably about the right price ... the evens on Betfair did not last long!

Lethal Freddie ran better than expected coming home second, he benefited from a clear run on the outside while Turar Abit, Presence Of Mind and Cunning Devil all got in each others way on the inner.

Ocean Trailers Puppy Stakes Final

by getagrip68 @ 26.04.2008 - 18:04:53

The Ocean Trailers Puppy Stakes final heads a good looking card at Walthamstow tonight. Nick Savva has the favourite for the main event in the shape of Westmead Osprey who is a son of his dual Derby winner, Westmead Hawk.

Speed Figs

T4 - Westmead Osprey 100
T1 - Turar Abit 76+
T2 - Presence Of Mind 70
T5 - Cunning Devil 61+
T3 - Little Jig 50+
T6 - Lethal Freddie 50

Westmead Osprey is well clear on the numbers and I expect him to lead on the run up and go on from there. Turar Abit is well drawn in the red jacket and is capable of better than his rating suggests, he could be the one to chase home Nick Savva's dog.

Skydogs Tissue

The odds I've come up with for this one based on the speed figures and tweaked for the trap draw are -

10/11 Westmead Osprey, 6/1 Turar Abit, 15/2 Presence Of Mind, 10/1 Cunning Devil, 16/1 Lethal Freddie, 18/1 Little Jig

Only Blue Square have priced the event up so far and the interesting dog for me is Lethal Freddie who they have at 5/1. He would be one to take on at that sort of price. Westmead Osprey is quoted at 8/11 which is a tad short but there's even money available on Betfair which looks worth taking.

Golden Sprint Review

by getagrip68 @ 26.04.2008 - 16:13:02

Blindin Bell won the Golden Sprint at Romford and was another top rated winner for the speed figues. David Mullins' charge showed terrific early pace to lead from start to finish. Sprinter of the year Horseshoe Ping came home second after being bumped at the first bend.

The ante-post selection Blonde Jet never really got into the race after missing the break and missed out on the each way money by a short head ... which is a bit disappointing as Smooth Turbo dipped out by the same margin in the Grand National a couple of weeks ago. This can be a frustrating game with two one hundredths of a second over the two races being the difference between success and failure.

William Hill Blue Riband Review

by getagrip68 @ 26.04.2008 - 13:56:52

Farloe Reason, top rated on the speed figures, justified favouritism to land the Blue Riband at Hall Green.

Charlie Lister's son of Droopys Maldini wasn't great away from the boxes but was strong at the first bend and emerged in front. The race was all over from there and it was left to Commander Chief to chase him home.

The winner now goes to Wimbledon for the Greyhound Derby where he is a best priced 20/1 with Betfred.

Golden Sprint Final Preview

by getagrip68 @ 25.04.2008 - 18:55:08

The Golden Sprint at Romford comes to a conclusion tonight, a tight looking contest is in prospect.

Speed Figs

T1 - Blindin Bell 100
T5 - Horseshoe Ping 98
T6 - Rooster Nosey 83
T4 - Bonville Podge 80
T3 - Lambstown Hill 76
T2 - Blonde Jet 65

Blindin Bell and Horseshoe Ping are clear of the field on the figures and could well fight out the finish. Blindin Bell has plenty of early but Blonde Jet (the ante-post selection at 10/1) may well get first run and block off David Mullins' dog. If thats the case Horseshoe Ping will be in a good position to pick off Blonde Jet who doesn't appear to stay the 400 metre trip. One who does get this trip, and more, is Seamus Cahill's Rooster Nosey and he will be staying on late to take advantage of any trouble on the inner.

Skydogs Tissue

No, not something to blow your nose on ... although maybe they will be!

I've been tinkering with the speed figs and trying to convert them into tissue prices. I've also factored in a trap draw and come up with the odds below -

9/4 Blindin Bell, Horseshoe Ping, 5/1 Rooster Nosey, 11/1 Bonville Podge, 12/1 Lambstown Hill, 16/1 Blonde Jet

These are, as they say, a Beta version and I've not been back through my records fully to see how accurate they are. Comparing them with the prices on offer with the bookies reveals a couple of dogs who may be overpriced. Although it would be a bit of a surprise if either Rooster Nosey or Bonville Podge passed the post first tonight the odds of 8/1 and 20/1 available respectively are probably greater than the actual chance of them doing so.

I may just have a fun bet on the two highlighted and keep my fingers crossed that the ante-post selection Blonde Jet runs better tonight than I think he will.

William Hill Blue Riband Final Preview

by getagrip68 @ 22.04.2008 - 18:26:39

The Blue Riband final takes place at Hall Green tonight with Charlie Lister's Farloe Reason hot favourite to land the spoils. All the action is live on Sky from 7:30pm.

Speed Figs

T1 - Farloe Reason 100
T5 - Toosey Blue 92
T2 - Commander Chief 81
T3 - Tyrur Rocky 70
T6 - Iceman Ross 68
T4 - Eye Onthe Force 67

Farloe Reason and Toosey Blue are well clear on the figures and with the former in the red jacket he is difficult to oppose. I fancy these two to be 1-2 all the way to the finish. Commander Chief has something to find but at 14/1 he looks a big price and will be staying on at the finish.

The bookies look to have go this one about right and I can't find any value with either the traditional oddsmakers or on the spreads. As previously mentioned, Mark Wallis' Commander Chief looks overpriced at 14/1 but its still difficult to see he overcoming the big two and I won't be having a bet in this one.

Coral Regency Semi Final Draw

by getagrip68 @ 21.04.2008 - 16:57:52

The Regency continues at Hove on Thursday with two semi finals.

Flying Winner was quickest in the first round by some way, scooting home in 40.94 (calc). Chris Lund's bitch is now as short as 11/10.

The ante-post selection Swift Jade (rec. at 10/1), also won her heat and is as low as 7/2 with Totesport.

Semi-final trap draw as below -

FIRST SEMI:

1 SWIFT JADE
2 GLITTERING ARIES
3 SHERRIES BOY
4 COUCH ISONFIRE (M)
5 SHELBOURNE MERC (W)
6 AERO BLACKJACK (W)

SECOND SEMI:

1 FLYING WINNER
2 BALLYMAC WEESHIE

BCR Print Easter Cup Review

by getagrip68 @ 20.04.2008 - 11:23:22

Tyrur Kenny again proved me wrong when landing the Easter Cup last night continuing a great run of form for the Hennessy kennel.

The two backed against him, College Causeway and Caz Diamond, never really got into the race finishing third and fourth.

A video of the race can be seen here.

BCR Print Easter Cup

by getagrip68 @ 19.04.2008 - 20:58:38

The 50,000 Euro Easter Cup reaches its conclusion at Dublin's Shelbourne Park tonight, it looks set to be a cracker.

Speed Figs

T4 - College Causeway 100
T5 - Caz Diamond 93
T6 - Advantage Johnny 76
T3 - Tyrur Kenny 68
T2 - Plough Lane 62
T1 - Vacant

College Causeway and Caz Diamond head the figures after coming home first and second in the quickest semi. Likely leader Advantage Johnny is next best and could make them all go from a good draw in the stripes.

Tyrur Kenny sprang a surprise when taking the Tote Gold Cup at odds of 25/1 and the figures would suggest it would be a similar upset if Paul Hennessy's hound were to do the double. The bookies disagree however going as short as 13/8 and I'd be prepared to take him on at those sorts of odds. As Betfair aren't running a market on this one a straightforward lay bet can't be made so instead I'm going to try a different tactic and dutch* the top two on the numbers.

Bet - 16 points to win College Causeway at 2/1 (Ladbrokes, VC Bet), 9 points to win Caz Diamond at 9/2 (Boylesports).

* A dutch bet is a bet on two or more selections where the stakes are varied to return the same profit if any selection wins. For an online calculator click here.

Stan James Grand National Review

by getagrip68 @ 19.04.2008 - 11:15:19

The Grand National final was a cracker with Hurdler of the Year Kildare Lark coming out on top in a race where only a couple of lengths covered the whole field at the finish.

Ante-post wise the event proved disappointing with the main selection Analyse going out in the semi-finals, he never really looked at home at the Plough Lane track.

Smooth Turbo made the final and I was feeling pretty good about the 50/1 voucher I had, especially as the dog was backed down to 9/4. Unfortunately he chose the decider to fluff his lines at the start and could never get back on terms coming home fifth.

To be in good postition like that and lose money is a bit of a sickener. I think I need to look at my records to see if laying off on Betfair is a profitable proposition in scenarios like this.

Golden Sprint Semi-Final Draw

by getagrip68 @ 17.04.2008 - 21:48:17

The Golden Sprint continues at Romford on Friday night with three semi-finals.

The ante-post selection Blonde Jet goes in the second semi against the favourite for outright honours Baran Hawaii who was very impressive in the first round when clocking a rapid 23.88 for the 400 metre trip.

Semi Final Draw -

1 DROOPYS ARIADNE
2 MILLDEAN BUSTER
3 CENTAUR ROVER
4 STAR OF TWILIGHT
5 BONVILLE PODGE
6 HORSESHOE PING (M)

SECOND SEMI:

1 LOVE MAC
2 SEANIS LAD
3 BLONDE JET
4 FARLEY LEGEND
5 BARAN HAWAII (M)
6 ROOSTER NOSEY (W)

THIRD SEMI:

1 CONKER ALL
2 BLINK DE BOOKIES
3 BLINDIN BELL
4 FILINGPLUSDOGCOM
5 LAMBSTOWN HILL
6 BLONDE BARNEY (W)

Coral Regency Preview

by getagrip68 @ 17.04.2008 - 18:31:49

The Regency, a six bend competition held at Hove, gets underway tonight with four first round heats.

I fancy two dogs to go well, Swift Ninja and Swift Jade. I've had a tough time splitting these two offspring of American sire Hondo Black and in the end I've come down on the side of Darryl Porter's bitch Swift Jade who I think is the better value of the two.

Jade made the final of the Golden Jacket earlier this year where she fell when making her move. Whether she would have caught the eventual winner Shelboure Merc is open to debate but given a three week rest she showed no ill effects of her tumble and has since taken Opens at Swindon and Coventry. In between those runs she put in two good efforts at Hove behind Swift Ninja and Rough Rose. She wasn't far away on either occassion after finding trouble and is capable of better than the bare form of those runs suggests.

Swift Ninja is the big danger and I am not convinced I've got this one right but and around double the odds I'll stick with Jade.

Bet - 7 points each way Swift Jade at 10/1 (Totesport, VC Bet)

Coral Regency First Round Draw

by getagrip68 @ 17.04.2008 - 17:14:50

The Regency starts at Hove tonight. Greyhound of the Year Spiridon Louis took this one last year and while there may not be anything of his class in this years renewal it should still be a good event.

Here's the first round draw -

20.18 695M THE CORAL REGENCY - HEAT 1

1 BALLYMAC WEESHIE (S POOTS, UNATT)
2 SWIFT JADE (D D PORTER, SWNDN)

Stan James Grand National Final Preview

by getagrip68 @ 14.04.2008 - 21:47:36

The Grand National final is the centrepiece of a tasty looking card at Wimbledon on Tuesday, the action starts at 7:30pm on Sky Sports Xtra. As well as the main event there are a some real Derby contenders being put through their paces at the Plough Lane circuit and as a bonus Sky will also be showing the Blue Riband semi-finals from Hall Green.

Speed Figs

T2 - Smooth Turbo 100
T3 - Kildare Lark 93
T5 - Eye Onthe Flame 86+
T1 - Be All 85
T6 - Call Again 83
T4 - Morell Warrior 78

A tight looking contest on the figures with less than three lengths covering the whole field. Smooth Turbo heads the list after his semi-final defeat of 2007 Hurdler of the Year Kildare Lark. If he starts in his usual fashion and clears the red jacketed Be All (who has a tendancy to move middle) then a repeat of the semi's could be on.

I'm already on Smooth Turbo at 50/1 and he's now a best priced 3/1 which is a fair price. Kildare Lark is definately a danger but at 2/1 or shorter he doesn't make any appeal. Eye Onthe Flame is capable of improvement and the 8/1 looks decent value, he would be worth considering as a cheap buy on the spreads but overall I'm happy to leave the race alone and hope that Smooth Turbo makes the first four at least.

ibetX Scottish Derby Review

by getagrip68 @ 13.04.2008 - 17:10:36

Tyrur Kieran was another top rated winner for the speed figures when blasting clear early to win the Scottish Derby from Bubbly Totti and Loyal Honcho. The latter suffered a troubled passage but ran on to land the place portion of our ante-post bet. A video of the race can be seen here.

ibetX Scottish Derby Final Preview

by getagrip68 @ 12.04.2008 - 12:22:02

The Scottish Derby final will be decided at Shawfield tonight and even without Derby treble chasing Barnfield On Air it should be a cracker.

Speed Figs

T1 - Tyrur Kieran 100
T5 - Loyal Honcho 92
T2 - Kylegrove Top 79
T4 - Killough Tale 71
T6 - Bubbly Totti 67+
T3 - Pond Gallileo 49

Tyrur Kieran and Loyal Honcho are clear on the figures after their 1-2 in the first semi-final on Wednesday when Paul Hennessy's dog did the clock.

There should be a tremendous battle up front with Tyrur Kieran and Kylegrove Top blazing a trail to the first bend. If Tyrur Kieran gets round unscathed he will be difficult to stop, Loyal Honcho and Bubbly Totti (who is capable of going quicker than he has so far) look likely to be chasing the leaders down and will be ready to take advantage of any trouble on the inside.

It looks like being a great final but having already backed Loyal Honcho at 10/1 ante-post I'm not going to make any further investment in this one.

ibetX Scottish Derby Final Draw

by getagrip68 @ 12.04.2008 - 11:28:03

Afer the controversy of the opening round the Scottish Derby has got back on track with some good racing including a track record for Tyrur Kieran. The final is live on Sky Sports 2 tonight with coverage starting at 8:00p.m. I try to post a preview of the big race shortly but in the meantime here's the draw -

21.45 480M IBETX SCOTTISH DERBY FINAL 2008

1 TYRUR KIERAN
2 KYLEGROVE TOP
3 POND GALLILEO
4 KILLOUGH TALE
5 LOYAL HONCHO (M)
6 BUBBLY TOTTI (W)

Golden Sprint Preview

by getagrip68 @ 11.04.2008 - 15:14:49

The Golden Sprint starts tonight at Romford and its a good looking contest. Heat two looks set to be a cracker where Blonde Jet, who won more Open's in 2007 than any other dog takes on Sprinter of the Year, Horseshoe Ping. I fancy Blonde Jet to prevail from a great draw in trap 1.

In fact I'm going to back Maria Dennis' brindle to go all the way and land outright honours. There is a slight worry that this 400 metre trip will just stretch his stamina but with a week in between each round of this competition he will have plenty of time to recover from his exertions and at the standout 10/1 put up by Totesport he represents decent value.

Bet - 8 points each way Blonde Jet at 10/1 (Totesport)
