The Open Championship

by getagrip68 @ 16.07.2008 - 18:27:55

I'm struggling to find any winners at the moment so choosing a 140+ runner golf tournament might not be the best way to get out of trouble. Having said that this is The Open and its live on the BBC so a punt is almost mandatory!

With such a large field I'm going to back a couple of players who I think will go well. First up is Spain's Miguel Angel Jiminez. He leads the European Order of Merit and has managed top ten finishes in both the Masters and the US Open this season and is arguably more comfortable on this side of the Atlantic. While he's decent value at the 33/1 available outright I'm instead going to back him each way at the 15/1 put up by Boylesports to be top European.

My second selection is 2006 US Open winner Geoff Ogilvy. The Aussie has six top ten finishes to his name this season and his game clearly in good order. I have a slight concern over his driving accuracy on the tight, long Birkdale course but if he can keep the ball in play he'll be a real threat and is worth supporting each way at 28/1 with Boylesports and Paddy Power, both of which are paying out on the first seven places for each way bets.
