  • William Hill Cesarewitch

The Cesarewitch from Oxford is the big race on Sky Sports 3 this evening. It's a tough looking card but here are my selections -

    19:40 T5 Mountjoy Ruby 11/4 Totesport
    20:15 T6 Freedom Emma 9/4 Various
    21:25 T5 Hillcross Orion 4/1 Hills

Good luck to all connections and to you if you have a bet.

  • 15:45 Hamilton

Only time for a quick post -

    15:45 Hamilton -

Lay Stateside to lose 21 points at 5/2
Back Regents Secret, 5 points to win at 6/1 or better
Back Theonebox, 4 points to win at 13/2 or better

    Stateside; 1st
Profit / Loss; 0.00 points (lay unmatched)

    Regents Secret; Lost
    Profit / Loss; -5.00 points

    Theonebox; Lost
    Profit / Loss; -4.00 points

  • 19:55 Lingfield

The jolly for the five furlong handicap at Lingfield this evening is Matterofact and while she is consistent mare she tends to get placed in races rather than win. She should go well but I wouldn't want to back her to put her head in front where it counts and I'll lay her to lose 17 points at 3/1.

I'm also going to back Cape Royal (8 points at 100/30) and Rocker (6 points at 9/2) against Malcolm Saunders' charge.

    Matterofact; 1st
    Profit / Loss; -16.98 points

    Cape Royal; 3rd
    Profit / Loss; -8.00 points

    Rocker; 2nd
    Profit / Loss; -6.00 points

  • 21:30 Hamilton

Tangerine Trees goes in the last race of the day and having won at a higher level last time out looks sure to go well. At 11/8 with Sporting Bet he rates a decent wager and I'll have 15 points to win.

    Res; 1st
    Profit / Loss; +20.63 points

  • William Hill TV Trophy

The TV Trophy is the the main event on Sky Sports this evening. Also featured on a cracking Newcastle card are deciders for the Tyneside Derby and the Angel of the North Oaks. All the action is live from 19:30 on Sky Sports 3.

My selections for the evening are -

    20:50 T3 Greenwell River 3/1 (various)
    21:25 T2 Mill Pinpoint 7/2 (Stan James)
    21:45 T6 Vatican Iona 0.5 points EW 10/1 (Hills)

God luck to all connections and to you if you have a bet.

  • 15:15 Beverley

Summer Dancer won well at Musselburgh on Saturday and reappears quickly under a penalty to try and take advantage of what may turn out to be a lenient handicap mark.

Both of his career wins however have been at a lower grade than today's and at 3/1 I'm prepared to take him on, I'll lay to lose 21 points.

I'm also going back El Dececy (6/1) and Island Chief (13/2) in the same race staking to win around 20 points on each.

    Summer Dancer; 1st
Profit / Loss; 0.00 points (lay unmatched)

    El Dececy; Lost
    Profit / Loss; -3.10 points

    Island Chief; 3rd
Profit / Loss; -1.10 points (bet partially matched)

  • Two For Today

I'm going to take on these two today -

15:15 Lingfield - Lochstar, lay to lose 20 points at 3/1 or less.

20:50 Chepstow - Bateleur, lay to lose 17 points at 3/1 or less.

    Lochstar; Lost
    Profit / Loss; +6.33 points

    Bateleur; 3rd
    Profit / Loss; +5.51 points

... and now the after timing bit. In an attempt to boost profits I'm going to back two horses against the one I propose to lay. I am going to aim to win the equivalent of the lay stake as I haven't worked on a staking strategy for this bit yet!

    Here are today's results -

    15:15 Lingfield

    Chimes; Lost; -3.00 points
    Peak District; 1st; +20.11 points

    20:50 Chepstow

    Golden Dixie; 1st; +20.06 points
    Ghost Dancer; Lost; -2.50 points

  • Saturday Racing

Only a quick post as I'm off out ...

14:50 Redcar - Master Nimbus has a definate chance but is too short at 15/8, I'll lay to lose 21 points at that price.

16:35 Ayr - I'm not a fan of the fairer sex in open handicaps and Hansomis looks worth taking on in this one. Clearly in good heart but up in grade I'll lay her to lose 20 points at 2/1.

    Master Nimbus; 1st
Profit / Loss; 0.00 points (lay unmatched)

    Hansomis; 2nd
Profit / Loss; 0.00 points (lay unmatched)

  • This Evening's Racing

Tonight I fancy Prince Evelith (20:20 Ripon), 14 points to win ... and don't fancy, Sweet Gale (21:10 Kempton), lay to lose 20 points.

Prince Evelith; Lost ... sadly broke down after 2 furlongs
    Profit / Loss; -14.00 points

    Sweet Gale; 2nd
    Profit / Loss; +6.91 points

  • Skybet Gymcrack

The Gymcrack, a top class competition for pups, is live on Sky Sports 3 from Hall Green this evening.

My selections for the card are -

    19:40 T3 Deanridge Ammo 4/1 (Totesport)
    20:00 T6 Coolavanny Puis 5/2 (Coral)
    20:15 T4 Lethal Ace 10/3 (Totesport)
    20:35 T5 Officer Donagh 9/4 (Coral)
    21:10 T1 Directors Chair 11/4 (Coral)
    21:25 T4 Bubbly Maestro 7/2 (Totesport)

Johnny Moyles has as always put a preview up on his excellent blog ... though from his selections it doesn't look like we'll both be having a good night!

  • 20:00 Yarmouth

Mark Johnstone's Tilos Gem is likely to have plenty of improvement in him when he goes in the 1 mile handicap at Yarmouth this evening but the ratings suggest that he is going to need to step up on what he's shown so far. I'm always wary of laying colts but at the odds I'm prepared to take him. I think the top price of 5/2 is based on potential and horses like that are generally poor value. I'll lay him to lose 20 points.

    Res; Lost
    Profit / Loss; +7.60 points

  • 17:15 Carlisle

Just a quick post, Kings Maiden looks like she'll have to step up a bit on what she's shown so far to land the staying handicap at Carlisle this afternoon (17:15). She's relatively unexposed on the flat and could well improve but at around 9/4 I'm prepared to take her on and lay her to lose 17 points.

    Res; Lost
    Profit / Loss; +7.33 points

  • 14:50 Sandown

Trafalgar Bay looks on the short side for the Toteswinger Handicap at Sandown this afternoon. Karl Burke's gelding won well at Ascot a couple of starts back under Jim Crowley who is back on board today. This race however is two grades higher and has a competitive enough shape to it, on that basis I'm prepared to lay him to lose 15 points at 11/4 or lower.

Res; Lost (sadly broke down, fingers crossed he's OK)
    Profit / Loss; +5.27 points

  • This Afternoons Racing

    Extremely quickly ...

14:20 Brighton - Mountain Cat - 14 points win at Evs or better.
16:10 Haydock - Tanto Faz - 17 points win at 3/1 or better.
16:50 Brighton - Ask Jenny - Lay to lose 18 points at 2/1.

    Mountain Cat; 1st
    Profit / Loss; +15.43 points

    Tanto Faz; 3rd
    Profit / Loss; -17.00 points

    Ask Jenny; Lost
    Profit / Loss; +8.55 points

  • Cock O'The North & Scurry Cup Finals

A double header on Sky this evening featuring the Cock O'The North over six bends and the Scurry Cup for the sprinters.

I was at Belle Vue for the semi's last week but tonight I'm going to enjoy the action at home on Sky Sports 2.

My selections for the evening are -

    19:40 T1 Jimmy The Singer 4/1 (Skybet)
    20:00 T6 Southern Sunset 4/1 (Stan James)
    20:50 T5 Vatican Iona 3/1 (Hills)
    21:25 T6 Ardkill Tunoco 11/4 (Stan James)

Good luck to all connections and to you if you have a bet.

  • 15:55 Salisbury

Only time for a quick post but today I'll be having 14 points to win on Aromatic at 13/8 and a further 28 points in the place market at 1.42 or better.

    Res; Lost
Profit / Loss; -42.00 points ... strategy (yes, there is one) under review!

  • 19:50 Goodwood

Some cracking racing today with an excellent card at Epsom this afternoon including the Oaks and the Coronation Cup.

I considered a number of bets today and I'm slightly disappointed that from a short list of seven the two I really fancied were in the same race!

Nevertheless I'm going to row in with Beau Fighter in the 19:50 at Goodwood tonight. Chris Wall's gelding won at this level last time and with only four starts under his belt he's open to further improvement. Jo'burg has to be feared and I wouldn't put anyone off having a saver on him.

Beau Fighter is generally available at 2/1 I'll have 16 points to win at a further 32 points at 1.50 or better in Betfair's place market.

    Res; Lost
    Profit / Loss; -48.00 points

  • 18:45 Sandown

Only time for a quick post as I'm off to Belle Vue for the Cock of the North and Scurry semi finals.

Invincible Lad looks to have a good chance of landing the sprint at Sandown this evening (18:45) for my local trainer Eric Alston. Bet365's current price of 11/8 is just about acceptable though I wouldn't take any shorter. I'll have 14 points to win and a further 24 points to place if I can get 1.48 or better (which doesn't look likely at the moment).

    Res; 3rd
Profit / Loss; -14.00 points (place bet unmatched)

  • 21:20 Kempton

I had a number of possible bets on my shortlist today but I'm going to be patient and wait for the last race of the day.

Zalkani goes in the apprentice handicap at Kempton this evening (21:20) and looks a mighty short price to me. A veteran of the all weather at nine year's old he wins his fair share of races but you'd have to hope there is something in the race with a bit more scope and Coral's quote of 15/8 seems skinny.

You can't lay quite so low on Betfair but he can be opposed at around 5/2 and that looks a play to me. I'll lay to lose 17 points with a further lay to lose 4 points in the place market if he goes as low as 1.55.

    Res; Lost
Profit / Loss; +6.59 points (place lay unmatched)
